The Scene
This French country-style hotel is set high in Santa Barbara's Riviera neighborhood on ten lush acres overlooking the town and Santa Barbara Channel. It offers easy access to local fun while feeling far away from the crowds. The architecture dates back to 1912 and truly captures the enchanted spirit of its idyllic location up among the birds and trees.
The Details
Comfortable guest rooms and cottages offer kitchens and fireplaces, as well as lovely views. One of the inn's most popular activities is a simple one: enjoying a glass of local red on the hotel's spacious deck while admiring the city below. The El Encanto Dining Room is known as Santa Barbara's most romantic restaurant, and you should try for a window table. In the evenings, stroll over to the Riviera Theater for a foreign film, or visit the Old Mission, just down the hill.

Grounds and restaurant are nice. Regular rooms very dated, tired and worn with no charm. For this price range, there are *no* amenities except pool (no hi speed data, exercise room, hair dryers, etc). Beware dial up charges! For 2 years they have been aware that local dial up access numbers that show as Santa Barbara on Earthlink, AOL, etc. result in long distance charges but have the balls not to warn customers and to try to collect over $1.00/minute. Look elsewhere in Santa Barbara.
Pros: landscaping, restaurant
Cons: below average rooms, distance from town, dial-up access ripoff
