Editorial Review for Melvyn's – by Paige Lipman
The Scene
Dim lighting and ice-cold dry martinis add to the romantic aura that fills each cozy banquette. This longstanding Palm Springs institution at the Ingleside Inn is a popular spot for the desert old guard (Frank Sinatra was a regular) as well as Hollywood young guns.
The Food
The menu spotlights classic Continental dishes as if they never went out of style. Start with succulent crabcakes filled with hunks of crab, not bready filler, or the chilled lobster cocktail served over ice. Next up are two exquisite starters; a decadent French onion soup topped with a lightly browned slice of Gruyere and a zesty Caesar salad prepared tableside. Melvyn's reruns the tableside show with its steak Diane entree. Rich and tender, the choice cut is topped with shallots and a velvety peppercorn sauce. For dessert, the best bet is a light-as-air souffle.

This is my favorite retsaruant in palm springs beacuse, Honestly, were else can you get cherries jubilee tableside! Once you step inside it is an instant satisfaction Before you eat take a look at the bar, it is the classiest one in town and the wall next to it is lined with pictures of Mel and the celeberties that dined there. You can start off your meal by having a ceaser salad tossed tableside or tableside shrimp de johnge. Then main course, i reccomend their veal specialty, Steak diane tableside or the lamb; it is the one of the best lambs in the city, and they dont skip on the portion size. Finally finish your evening with cherries jubilee, bananas foster, crepes suzette, ot starwberry flambe. I personally enjoy the cherries jubilee. I believe it is the last place in Palm Springs to get it. The waitstaff is superb and you will not be disapointed with them.
Pros: Cherries jubilee

I've lived in the P.S. area for about 20 years and Melvyn's is one of my favorite places. My husband and I stayed at Melvyn't when we got married almost three years ago and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent and the food is wonderful. We even had our post wedding brunch with family and their Sunday breakfast is fantastic. Now that we moved back to P.S. we make it a point to treat ourselves to this romantic restaurant every once in a while. Melvyn's is a great mix of people of all ages. If you want to experience a place where the locals hang out on a regular basis- this is it! There is nightly entertainment and on weekends the bar is really busy. You'll see the owner Mel hanging around taking care of his regulars. If you want to stay in a boutique hotel and experience "classic Palm Springs" this is the place for you!
